Suggestions

We have addressed some of the common questions about our web site in the following sections. If you have other questions or suggestions, please feel free to use our comments page. We would love to hear from you!

Navigating the TerraX.org Pages

The familiar underlined words will take you to other places in the TerraX.org pages. You can then use your "back" button to return to the previous page, or you can use the short cut topics located at the top and bottom of each page. We have also included some icons that link to other pictures and related articles.

A picture on that topic is available.
A short animation is available on that topic.
A sound clip is available on that topic.
Another article is available to describe that subject in more detail.
A 3D environment is available on the subject.
An interactive game or exercise is available. It may require a Java or JavaScript capable web browser.
A project that can be built.
Teacher aids are available for this topic.

In addition to the previous list, some files are available in other formats:

Bookmarks

We recommend that you bookmark our Home Page so that you can easily return to what you were looking for if you get sent somewhere unexpected. If a specific topic interests you, please feel free to bookmark that specific page. Our pages rarely move, so you can safely bookmark and link individual pages.

Links to Links

We may occasionally link to other web pages that have information we feel is related to our mission. There are millions of web pages around the world, so you may have to use your program's "back" button to return to the TerraX.org page. Likewise we appreciate it when other sites link to ours, but you may have to use the "back" button to return.

If you have a web site and would like to link to ours, please feel free to go ahead. We rarely move our web pages, so you may link directly to the topic that interests you.

We are developing a co-branding mechanism so that other sites can use our pages while retaining their own look and feel. If you are a web provider interested our cobranding program, please contact our webmaster.

Browser Choices

The TerraX.org web site is designed to take advantage of some of the features of modern browsers, including some formatting enhancements, as well as the Java and JavaScript languages. It should also work well with older browsers. We recommend that you use a newer browser, such as Netscape 6 or Microsoft's Internet Explorer 6. Many places on the World Wide Web use the advanced features of these browsers. We focus on Internet Explorer a bit more because that is the browser most of our visitors use.

Both Netscape and Microsoft offer their latest browsers for FREE download. For more information, visit the Netscape or Microsoft pages.

We tend to design our pages to be used by computers with a 800 by 600 or larger display. The photographs and other pictures also lend themselves to displays with 256 or more colors.

Java and JavaScript

Do you have Java and JavaScript on your computer? We have the answer to that:

If the above statements indicate that your Java or JavaScript is merely turned off, you may turn them on from the network or security menu on your browser's options menu.

Adobe Acrobat

We have created some materials for teachers to print out that use Adobe Acrobat. Those files will also have HTML (normal World Wide Web) equivalents, but they will print better if you can use the Adobe Acrobat files. If you do not have it already, a free Acrobat Reader is available from Adobe. This reader works with Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Netscape's Navigator and Communicator. It is easy for you or your resident computer guru to install.

The Internet Connection

Our web server's connection to the Internet is very fast, so you should not have delays on our end. We realize that some people have a slow modem connection, and sometimes bottlenecks on the Internet slow everyone down, so we try to keep our pages small enough to load quickly. There are a couple of things that you can do on your end to make web pages load faster for you. By the way, these tips help for all web pages, not just ours.

Copyright and Trademarks

Well, here's the dreaded legalese paragraph:

All of the TerraX.org web pages, including text and images, are copyrighted by TerraX.org. Some items, such as the names "TerraX.org," and "Spider Sponsor," are also trademarked. Some material may be trademarked or copyrighted by other organizations as well. We intend for educators to use our material in the classroom and other educational environments such as for scout troops or homeschool students. Permission is granted for such educators to reproduce our pages as needed. The TerraX.org name, copyright notice, address, and web address must be included on all reproduced material. Pages should be reproduced in their entirety if at all possible. No web links, text, images or other material may be used in any context that would construe that the material was not created by, or the property of, TerraX.org. Sites with internet access should link to the relevant pages at our site rather than reproduce our copyrighted pages and images. Links to our pages, text, images and other material may not be used out of context, for commercial purposes, or used competitively. If you want to use something, but we've scared you off, please call, e-mail or write, we don't bite!

We don't make mistakes! Or misspell words. (None of our programs have any errors either ;-)
